New to the hybrid driving scene and wondering how to save more $$ on petrol? Learning the "Pulse and Glide" technique may allow you to save up to 30% more on fuel! By switching between Pulsing and the Gliding motion, you are effectively reducing the amount of time your engine is running during the "glide" resulting in fuel savings.
Start by bringing your hybrid up to speed by gently depressing the accelerator. Let your hybrid accelerate to about 10~15 km above your target speed limit (e.g. 50km/h)
Now, briefly let go of the accelerator. This allows your hybrid to essentially cut off the engine power being supplied. Once you feel the engine power being cut off, gently apply pressure on the accelerator again being careful not to "activate" the power from the engine. Focus on using power from the hybrid battery to maximise your fuel economy. This is called the "glide" and is what effectively helps you to save more on petrol.
While "gliding" you will notice your speed decrease gently to the target speed (e.g 50km/h). Once you fall below the target speed, you would have to repeat the process of "Pulsing & Gliding. This has been proven to be a much more effective way to save fuel compared to maintaining a constant speed.
